Zero Break or Fall Line Drill
We can all use a liberal dose of ‘Get Lucky Golf’ but this is more of a spontaneous ‘Gift’ from the golf gods that someone can hope for but not rely upon or demand. If you have had a ‘Hole In One’ you will know that we plan on many and get very few!
Let us break down the varieties of ‘Dance Floor Conditions’? [“All Putts Are Dead Straight!”]
1) Level Putts on perfect grass conditions
2) Sloped Straight Uphill
3) Sloped Straight Downhill
4) Breaking Putts mean the Green is not level
5) Options are ‘Breaking Left’
6) Options are ‘Breaking Right’
7) Pace Around The Hole at 10 to 20 feet to discover dance floor data
8) Find The Fall Line. Read it Uphill to the hole and not downhill
9) Determine The Zero Break Line.
This will expose the ‘Breaking Tendencies Of The Green’
As a ‘Work Smart’ practice routine, set-up a ‘Four Corner or Circle Drill’ around the cup. Mark the ‘Zero Break Line’ location with a Red Tee. Make a gentle uphill ball roll and test your ‘Read’. If the ball is breaking ‘Right To Left’, move your ‘Red Tee’ more to the ‘Left’ and make another test roll. Keep testing until your ball rolls ‘Dead Center Cup’! This really helps your ‘Green Reading’! Putting is more of an ‘Art Form than a Mechanical Challenge’. Read greens at least every second day if not every day. Putting and Chipping are ‘Money Skills’.
Remember, your Red Tee is always ‘Below The Hole’ or ‘Uphill to the Cup’! Once you know the ‘Zero Break or Fall Line’, you shall make fewer putts per hole and per round! Your ‘Playing Ball’ will break towards the ‘Red Tee’. Golf’s tendency is to ‘Under Read Putts’. Add margin!
