There are definitely physical challenges on course. I heard a comment the other day that ‘There Are Very Few Perfect Shots Out there!” How often do you find that your ball has come to rest in a ‘Perfect Lie or ideal Shot Circumstance’? If the rules allowed giving the ‘Ball Location A Little Tweek’, how often would you elect to do so? You recall the term ‘Foot Wedge’?
A pertinent observation and question is ‘How Often Does The Golfer Lift Clean and Place on the Dance Floor’? This process involves marking your ball, but this overall ritual tasking takes place ‘Every Putting Event’. How meticulous are your ‘Putting Surface Preparations? Very!
We have talked ‘Perfection’, but let is talk ‘Imperfections’ as well?
Out on course we expect and deal with ‘Level, Straight Up Hill and Straight Down Hill’. Additionally, we experience Side Hill Lies above and below our feet. ‘Nuances Matter’! It is a real-world meandering on the grass over the course of play! We tend to experience really tricky challenges during play. If one plays twice a month, practising these ‘Nuances’ is afforded twice a month! Is that an adequate formula for improvement and success? Finding ‘Out Of Level Ground’ around the ‘Practice Area’, swinging out of level, is quite uncommon. How might one improve?
Carry a medium ‘Philips Screwdriver’ and a pocket-knife or pair of scissors in your bag of tricks. Get a styrofoam cup of nice cool water and several small drinking straws. Dig a clean hole with the Philips and stick the straw in that hole. Now place a tee in the shortened straw. Your ball will end up being 3 to 5 inches above the grass, simulating a ‘Ball Above Your Feet Lie’. Make a ‘Pre-Shot Routine Pivot-Waggle’. Now strike the tricky ball with a full-ish swing.
You can simulate ‘Ball Below Your Feet’ by hitting from a 1.5 inch deep divot. I carry two ‘24 Inch Bunker Boards’ (2X4s side by side to stand on) In this manner one can simulate a 3 inch ‘Side Hill Lie’. If you carry four ‘Bunker Boards’, you can simulate a 4.5 Inch Side Hill Ball Below Your Feet situation. Golfers are inventive!
