We have a ‘Go Mode’ and an ‘Analytical Fear-Based Hold Mode’. One cannot ‘Loose The Hounds or Horses’ until the gate is open. We are certainly benefitted by preparation, but too much salt and pepper on a meal is not a beneficial seasoning. It may create bitterness?
There is a big difference between being mentally and physically prepared (ready for action) and having reached or achieved perfect analysis and preparation. We can overdo the ‘Getting Ready Part’! Perfectionism can become a mild infection of our lives on the golf course. This overkill can obstruct dreams, goals and lives. Being preoccupied with preparation can prevent execution. To accomplish ‘Maximum Speed’ one must be trusting and prepared to ‘Let The Musculo-Skeletal Machine Go’!
Thought can incite Tension. Tension obstructs speed! Tight muscles are slow muscles. In fact Tension can prevent our taking any action at all. (see ‘The Yips’ and ‘Stuck’) Our conscious thought process cannot keep up with our muscular processes. We know that our ‘Subconscious’ really controls movement.
In order to be successful at golf and to have fun, one must avoid stress and if it is resident in our ‘Golf Body Machine’ (house) we must break free of these insidious and debilitating mental impediments. When golf physical skills are well in hand, the game is predominantly a ‘Mental Playground or Battleground’.
If we are vulnerable, we shall become prohibited and focused on ‘Outcome’ rather than ‘Process’. This shortcoming invites and opens the door to ‘Fear & Stress’. Don’t confuse ‘Perfection with Excellence’. Perfection is elusive and has all the ingredients of ‘Anger’. We have all seen this demon on weekend golf television? Have you ever broken a golf club?
If you want to corrode a good golf career, this is a rather direct route! Strive to decide on good direction at every intersection be it a three or four way stop!
‘Be Grateful and Reverent’!
