Now that is a pretty simplistic question that deserves an answer. Simple name for what is often a simple task … ‘Shortest Holes On The course’ reasonably requiring three planned strokes … most often one hit onto the ‘Dance Floor’ followed by two Putts. One on and one in is better!
What is a Par 3? From a ‘Course and Mental Management’ perspective, it is a ‘Hole In One’! (HIO) One strike from Teeing Ground into the cup! Make my day!
What is a Par 4? Two ‘Holes In One’! One strike from the Teeing Ground to a perfect lie and position in the Approach Segment. Set-Up for a perfect Wedge into the cup!
What is a Par 5? Three ‘Holes In One’! In a long Par 5, once you have driven off the teeing ground, you very likely have a ‘Long Fairway Metal’ to an ‘Approach Distance’ or position. One might get caught thinking ‘Eagle’? Avoid fear-generating ‘Outcome Golf’!
What is sensible in a Par 5? Hit the Driver ball. Next hit whatever club can get you to your ‘Approach Distance’. If you hit your Pitching Wedge 100 Yards, hit your second shot to that yardage. Perfect your Pitching Wedge or any of your wedges! (see ‘CAD and Body Clocking’)
This is really ‘Work Smart’ and will serve you very well for every situation other than on Par 3s that are seldom the length of your favourite firmly-struck wedge.
If you strategize wisely (Course Manage) you shall very likely get improved outcomes!
Now you have more depth and effective planning in your golf knowledge quiver!
Enjoy!
