These two simple golf terms are not always all that simple. They are worthy of definition and conversation for you and ‘The 555 Team’.
Perhaps we can begin with an ordinary residential door discussion? When a bedroom door is closed it is latched and up against the ‘Door Stop’ component. This is ‘Closed’. The door is ‘Parallel’ to the wall.
When the door is ‘Open’ it is square or ‘Squarish’ to that wall and aptly known as ‘Open’. Depending on ‘Improper Handing’, this door will be protruding into the hallway! It should properly be turned or hinged into the room in the ‘Stowed’ position against the room wall. The hinges will be on the room wall side or edge of the door.
How do these terms pertain to the ‘Great Game Of Golf’? There is a ‘Target Line’ that goes forward from the ball directly through the ‘Intermediate and to the Far Targets’. It also extends back and away from the Ball and Target. This is known as the ‘Take Away Segment’. (see ‘Sweeping Back & Up’ – Low & Slow, Deep Flat & Wide … Swing Sequence #3)
All Clubheads have aspects or components. The ‘Leading Edge and Club Face’ at ‘Impact Fix’ (Address Ready) is ‘Square (at 90 degrees) to the ‘Target Line’. (see ‘Intended or Initial Ball Flight Line’) If you turn or rotate this ‘Clubface’ so that it rotates more away from your Stance and Ankle Alignment Axis, it is referred to as ‘Open’ or oriented to the ‘Weak Side of the Target Line’. (see ‘The Low Energy Side Of Target Line’) The opposite is also true and is called ‘The Strong of High Energy Side’) This condition is also referred logically to as ‘Closed’. If you are familiar with the ‘Draw – Hook’, these require more delivered energy and thus the ‘Closed, High-Energy Condition’) For a Right-Hander, ‘Open C/F Right’ and ‘Closed C/F Left’!
How important are ‘Clubface Aim and Clubhead Path’? (see ‘Inside-Out and Outside-In’)
The only more important aspect of Golf may simply be ‘Visual Acuity’ and ‘Having Fun’! Don’t waste a moment of either!
