What club do I need to use for this shot? How far does it Carry (Air Time) and Roll Out (Ground Time)? “Wow! I never stop wrestling with these numbers! Can I make it easier?” Response … you should be able to improve on your distance challenge by not killing the ball!
What are my ‘Club Splits’ … Short, Regular and Long Carry & Roll Out? We all develop this data but usually differently! Most of us just try to remember it in the heat of battle? … Guess, Wish & Hope? Let us consider ‘15 Yard Splits’ for now. You might choose to utilize ‘10 Yard Splits’? With 15’s, every Club’s going a total of 15 more yards, will give us a practical basis! Thus, we can and must meaningfully ‘Calibrate Our Bags’ (CAD) from the Lob Wedge to the Driver. Guessing is just a slow and painful death, especially in the ‘Approach & Short Game’! You want really great, small ‘Putting Numbers’? Not in this life by accident! (see ‘The 5 Way To Shorten Your Distance’ and ‘Body Clocking’ … ‘555 Golf Magic Potions’ just for YOU)
Useful data might look like this … #LW – 55 Yards … #SW – 70 … #A or Gap Wedge – 85 … #PW – 100 yards … #9 – 115 … #8 – 130 … #7 – 145 … #6 – 160 … #5 – 175 etc.
Can I do “ANYTHING SIMPLE” to ballpark my Air and Ground Distance? This may help! Think of your #PW – 100 Yards. Calculate 10% (10 yards – easy task). Cut it in half = 5 Yards! Let that be your ‘Expected Run Distance’ (ERD). Think of your #6 Iron (160 Yards Total). 10% is 16 Yards and 5% is 8 Yards ‘ERD’. You shall prove your own numbers with experience!
There are a lot of natural factors that will directly affect ‘Trajectory and Roll Out’. You know and can also factor them over time and experience! 16 and 8 yards will give you some ‘EASY – Do It In Your Head’ useable range or data with which to work. May end up with a 16 yard hop and an 8 yard roll out. Golf offers generous options!
Refine and Enjoy!
