If this savvy ‘Country Gentleman Golf Teacher’ could deliver one message to you, our ‘Global 555 Family’, it would be to strive towards ‘Process Golf’ and not towards ‘Outcome Golf’. Direct your mental and physical energy towards making the shot and not a score! If you make the shot, that will take care of achieving the score! When is your score NOT scary?
‘Process Golf’ takes place in the ‘Present Tense’. It is therefore not a fear-based, anxious activity. Without a lot of explanation, ‘Outcome Golf’ is the flip-side of this ‘Mental Coin’. We worry about how things will turn out. Fear is tension-generating negative energy. Negative trumps positive energy! Fear and hate trumps comfort and love! Anxiety garners nothing good! Don’t worry or focus on your ‘Final Score’. It is a trap! Focus methodically on the shot looking you in the face! If you want to play the ‘Score Game’, do so three (3), six (6) or nine (9) holes at a time. Look back at your 18 hole score and not ahead!
If perspective and opinion of one’s own golf situation and skill-set is negative, so too might become the outcome. Be careful what you wish for and fear! Every shot is a new opportunity. You can always birdie the last hole! That is never a bad moment!
Avoid comparing oneself with the “Those Guys Are Good” bunch on TV. Playing efficient golf is their ‘Day Job’. Your golf is likely not ‘Job #1’? Avoid the ‘Comparative Crash’ by judging your ‘Scoring Progress’. Better to strive to hit quality shots on demand!
Remember, however weak your performance might be, there is always someone whom you can beat and someone who can beat you! The sound mind in a sound body is a formidable combination!
That is golf!
That is life!
